St Mary’s Friday Fun Night

St Mary’s has been running its monthly Friday Fun Nights for the past 5 years. We aim to provide a safe, social environment for children between the ages of 8 and 13 to meet and ‘chill out’ together within a Christian environment.

There are various activities on offer, table tennis, snooker, air- hockey and table football as well as a Nintendo Wii games console and DVD’s to watch on our brilliant new 32” flat screen TV!  At each session there are planned cooking and craft activities which are very popular. We prepare all manner of things including ginger biscuits, hot dogs, fresh fruit juices, Mexican taco’s, pizza’a and cakes. Crafts have included t-shirt printing and greeting card design as well as making the decorations for the Junior Church Christmas Tree. We have occasional outings to Mickleton Film Club and we aim to have an annual ‘Games on the Desmesnes’ and BBQ when parents are welcome to join in the fun. When it rains we still manage to play plenty of games and the hot dogs cook just as well inside!

There is a small but dedicated team of volunteers who run Friday Fun Night, planning activities, shopping for the ‘tuck’ shop, and at each session making sure everything runs smoothly whilst engaging with the young people who attend.

All are welcome to come along and give it a try. The sessions run from 5.30 -7pm. There are 2 Fun nights remaining this year; November 13th and December 11th. The activities in November are Burgers and Bonfire toffee and making gift boxes,  the Fun Night in December will be a Disco in the main hall.
