St. Mary's Bell Ringers
We practice every Monday evening from 7.30pm until 9.00pm and we do organise special practice times to teach new ringers when people are interested.
St Mary’s Church has eight bells and the heaviest of these (known as the tenor) is 17cwt.
Bell ringing can be undertaken by people of any age from about 12 onwards and is both physically and mentally challenging.
Bells are traditionally rung for Sunday Services, weddings and state and civic occasions. We have a small group of regular ringers and are always keen to recruit new people.
A sound control system that was fitted in 2004 which enables us to practice with minimal disturbance to those living and working in the vicinity of the church.
Ringing for Sunday Services takes place from 9.45- 10.30am.
If you are interested in joining us then please contact the Vicar.
Further information about Bell Ringing, or it's posh name 'Campanology' can be found by visiting the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers website.
