Saving St Mary’s Stained-Glass from Ruin

Hear from Jonathan Cooke as he describes the challenges of restoring St Mary's beautiful stained-glass windows over the summer of 2020. Despite the difficulties of the year, he and his son, Tristram, have worked hard to save these historical treasures from the decay of time.

1st January 2021 Heritage

Many of the beautiful stained-glass windows at St Mary’s church were in dire need of restoration and we were extremely lucky to have ICON Accredited Conservator-Restorer Jonathan Cooke take care of them. Most of the work took place during the first national lockdown in 2020 when Jonathan was joined by his son Tristram, who was himself furloughed from his job as a lay vicar at Westminster Abbey. Listen to them talk about the challenges and rewards they faced while working to save some of St Mary’s most beautiful windows.
