What happened at St Mary’s during lockdown?

Vicar Alec Harding discusses the recent changes undergone at St Mary's in the summer of 2020, and highlights the wealth of heritage the church has to offer.

25th November 2020 Heritage

A summer of changes

Like the other churches of the UK, St Mary’s parish church in Barnard Castle grew empty in the turbulent summer of 2020. But that didn’t halt all activity, and behind the scenes a remnant of normal life continued on. The church underwent extensive restoration work on its mass of historically valuable masonry and windows.

Joining DigVentures’ Johanna to tell us about it is St Mary’s own vicar, Alec Harding. Listen as he discusses the changes to the church, exciting secrets that came to light during renovations and how the congregation of St Mary’s adapts to the new world: physically and technologically.
