Organ Recital

Wednesday 29th June 1.00pm
St Mary's Barnard Castle

An organ recital on our fantastic Copeman Hart digital organ with Colin Wood.
Colin Wood presents a mixed programme of music through the ages which will appeal to organ fans or those who are not familiar with the King of Instruments.

Colin Wood is no stranger to the organ at Barnard Castle having previously thrilled listeners with his performances of a wide range of organ repertoire spanning the centuries.

Colin Wood was born in South Shields. He began playing the organ at an early age staying with John Robinson in Newcastle. His studies with John continued at college, where he was also taught by Keith Trewitt. Further studies followed with Richard Lloyd at Durham Cathedral.

After college, Colin spent several years in the retail industry and the music industry, where he eventually became regional manager for a large international music corporation. During these years he continued to study music and after study under Jim McAvoy and Clifford Hartley in Sunderland, he became a Licentiate of Trinity College London in organ teaching. Later, advanced studies with Timothy Hone at Newcastle Cathedral led to the qualification of Fellow of Trinity College in organ performance and then after tuition from Keith Wright at Durham Cathedral he became an Associate of the Royal College of Organists in 2012.

Colin has given recitals throughout the North East, including several appearances at the Newcastle Cathedral Concert Series. He has played organs around the world, notably the Wilhelm instrument in Christ Church Cathedral, Montreal and the monumental Cavaille-Coll in St. Surpluses, Paris.

Colin has been an active church musician throughout his adult life and is currently Director of Music at St Ignatius Church in Sunderland.
