Teesdale Riverside Pilgrimage

From Barnard Castle church via Whorlton, Winston and on to Gainford

On Saturday 10th/Sunday 11th September 2022 a new Pilgrimage Route will be inaugurated along the River Tees from Barnard Castle, via Whorlton and Winston, on to Gainford where the route will link up with the Way of Life Pilgrimage that heads up to Durham cathedral.

All are welcome to walk all or part of the route.

The Pilgrimage leaves St. Mary’s Barnard Castle at 10.00am on Saturday 10th and will take a leisurely stroll along the river to Whorlton. Packed lunches can be eaten on the Green or in church  where drink making facilities will be provided.

Then, on Sunday, walkers will leave St. Mary’s Whorlton at 1.00pm. There will be a stop at St. Andrews, Winston at 3.00pm (to drop off / pick up new walkers). The route then heads to Gainford for 4.30pm: Tea will be served and a Deanery service begins at 5.30pm
